Russian Federation overs more than one-eighth of the Earth's total land area, stretching from the Baltic and Black Seas in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east.

Russia possesses the world's largest natural gas reserves, the 8th largest oil reserves and the 2nd largest coal reserves. It is one of the world's leading natural gas producers and exporters, while also being the 2nd largest oil producer and exporter.

The country’s industries include a complete range of mining and extractive industries producing coal, oil, gas, chemicals, and metals; all forms of machine building from rolling mills to high-performance aircraft and space vehicles; defence industries, advanced electronic components, shipbuilding; road and rail transportation equipment; communications equipment; agricultural machinery such as tractors, and construction equipment; electric power generation and transmitting equipment; medical and scientific instruments; consumer durables; textiles; foodstuffs; and handicrafts.
