Gas Research Institute

The Gas Research Institute (GRI), established by the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Algeria, serves as a global hub for advancing natural gas technology and research. As part of the GECF’s commitment to energy innovation, the GRI fosters a collaborative environment for scientific and technological cooperation among GECF member countries. Our mission is to drive progress through information exchange, innovation, technology transfer, and the sharing of best practices.

Objectives of the GRI:

  • Promoting Technology and Innovation: By advancing technological development across the gas value chain, the GRI aims to enhance the efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability of natural gas resources for GECF members.
  • Research and Development: The GRI conducts cutting-edge research programs focused on natural gas technologies, supporting advancements that address both current needs and future energy demands.
  • Training and Capacity Building: Through specialized training programs, the GRI equips experts from member countries with knowledge in advanced technologies, fostering skill development that strengthens the global gas sector.
  • Partnerships and Collaboration: The GRI actively seeks partnerships with universities, research institutions, and other organizations to expand its impact and establish itself as a cornerstone of technological cooperation in the industry.

Based in Algeria, a pioneering nation in natural gas technology, the GRI benefits from the region’s expertise in exploration, production, and processing. The inauguration of the GRI headquarters on February 29, 2024, in Algiers, marked a significant milestone in the GECF's efforts to enhance technological collaboration among member countries. This event was attended by distinguished officials, including H.E. Mohamed Arkab, Algeria's Minister of Energy and Mines, and H.E. Viktor Zubkov, Russia’s Special Presidential Representative for Cooperation with the GECF. Their presence underscored the collective commitment to advancing natural gas technologies and innovation.

As a dedicated research platform, the GRI stands committed to supporting sustainable economic growth, enhancing energy security, and contributing to a cleaner, more prosperous world through natural gas innovation.
