First preparatory meeting for the 7th GECF Summit held

The first meeting of the High Level Ad Hoc Working Group (HLAHWG) for the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) was held at the GECF Secretariat, laying the groundwork for the flagship event of the Forum. 

The HLAHWG will oversee the preparations for the upcoming edition of the biennial gathering, which will be held in Algiers, Algeria, in November 2023. 

The meeting appointed the Executive Board member from Algeria as its chairperson, Ms Fatiha Neffah. It was attended by GECF member countries Algeria, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, UAE, and Venezuela. GECF Secretary General HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel led the Secretariat team.  

Ms Neffah said: “Algeria is proud to host the 7th GECF Summit of Heads of State and to provide a platform for our highest leaders to come together to address critical challenges and opportunities facing the global gas industry at this important juncture.”

The High Level Ad Hoc Working Group received a report on the preparations and various programmes of the 7th Summit by the host country. The Summit’s agenda and the all-important declaration also came under the review. 

The meeting participants appreciated the progress and expressed their trust in Algeria as an able host of this significant event. 

Previous Summits were held in Doha, the State of Qatar (2011); Moscow, Russian Federation (2013); Tehran, the Islamic Republic of Iran (2015); Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Plurinational State of Bolivia (2017); Malabo, Equatorial Guinea (2019); Doha, State of Qatar (2022 – postponed from 2021).
